WHAT TYPE OF SIGHT PROBLEMS CAN BE TREATED WITH A LASER CORRECTIONS SURGERY?
There are several eye correction treatment options available. The options are specifically tailored to vision errors whether it be: far or near-sightedness (hyperopia or myopia), age-related vision changes (e.g. presbyopia), the curvature of your cornea that can give blurry vision (astigmatism), the thickness of your cornea and any other eye conditions such as dry eyes or cataracts.
Below you can read about the different types of vision correction surgeries that we offer.
The most commonly chosen pain-free surgery option for those that want to treat their far or near-nearsightedness. Most patients experience immediate results and can return back to work the following day. During the 15 min surgery, a laser creates a flap in the cornea which is temporarily set aside so the laser can correct the patients vision.
The surgery takes about 10 min per eye.
The Trans PRK or Transepithelial PhotoRefractive Keratectomy surgery, is a good option for those with thin corneas or that have other eye conditions. In this surgery the laser will gently remove the outmost regenerative cellular layer of the eye to reshape the cornea to correct the vision for the patient.
They surgery takes about 5 min per eye.
"At Salvanos Eye Clinic we want our patients to first and foremost receive the best quality care possible and for them to be satisfied knowing they are in safe hands. We will only offer you treatment that we think will be beneficial for you"
REFRACTIVE LENS EXCHANGE SURGERY (RLE)
The RLE surgery is very similar to a cataract surgery that most people will need during their lifetime. During this procedure the lens of the eye is replaced with a biocompatible manmade lens that matches the patients exact needed vision prescription. This procedure is a good option for patients that are not suitable for the other LASIK procedures and the results for the RLE surgery is very stable over time.
Just with cataract surgeries it is best to treat one eye at a time. The procedure takes about 15 min per eye, with each eye surgery taking place 7-10 days after the first one.
It is also important to note when the natural lens is replaced, one looses the ability to focus at a close distance and patients should expect to need reading glasses afterwards. For some patients that want to avoid reading glasses, the multifocal lens can be an option. To determine if the multifocal lens is a better option, patients are given contact lenses that mimic the multifocal lens prescription before committing to the procedure.
IMPLANTABLE CONTACT LENS SURGERY (ICL)
In this procedure an implantable collamer lens is placed between the natural lens and the iris. This implanted lens, made from plastic and collagen assists the intact natural lens to refract light on the retina (just like your contact lens), which produces clearer vision.
It is great options for a patient that suffer from dry eye, have an irregular cornea surface or have very strong prescriptions.
The procedure takes about 15 min per eye
If you have previously done a LASIK procedure and are not happy with the results or there have been changes to your vision, a LASIK touch-up can be a good option.

DO YOU OFFER LIFETIME GUARANTEES?
The short answer is that no real professional eye doctor can guarantee that a procedure will have a 100% success rate . Simply put, complications such as eye infections and glaucoma can arise after any procedure.
Certain pre-exciting conditions might also increase the risk of certain complications and it is also the reason an in depth exam should screen for things like retina diseases and glaucoma. Please note that retinal diseases are subspecialty in ophthalmology and requires years of training and studying.
When a visions correction procedure is done by a proper surgeon on the most modern laser machines, it is one of the most safest surgery types (complications are usually less than 1%). Any complications that might arise are usually treatable also.
To further lower your risk of complications make sure to follow the post-operative rules and advice such as proper hand-hygiene, and avoiding rubbing your eyes, direct sunlight and swimming.
Also when a patient experiences vision changes several years after a vision correction procedures arise, it is not usually the procedure itself that is the cause but underlaying or new conditions.
There are companies that offer so called lifetime guarantees for extra fees. We encourage all people to google what really behind these guarantees. Usually there is fine prints, numerous exclusions and conditions and hidden fees.
Therefore, no matter who you choose to do your laser correction surgery, make sure you do your research beforehand, are given an in depth exam and definitely ask for the surgeons credentials!
