LASER CORRECTION SURGERIES

IN DEPTH EYE EXAM
All first time patients and those that want to see if they qualify for eye correction surgery are given an in depth 50 min exam. At Salvanos Eye Clinic, we are dedicated to building long-lasting relationships based on trust and medical integrity with every single patient.
WHAT TYPE OF EYESIGHT PROBLEMS CAN BE TREATED WITH LASER?
There are several eye correction treatment options available. The options are specifically tailored to vision errors whether it be: far- or near-sightedness (hyperopia or myopia), age-related vision changes (presbyopia), the curvature of your cornea that can give blurry vision (astigmatism). Other significant factors that we consider are the thickness of your cornea, as well as any other eye conditions, such as dry eyes, clouding of the lens (cataract), problems in the posterior part of the eye (retina).
Below you can read about the different types of vision correction surgeries that we offer.
FS LASIK SURGERY
The most commonly chosen pain-free surgery option for those that want to treat their far- or near-nearsightedness as well as astigmatism. Most patients experience immediate results and can return back to work the following day. During this procedure, a laser creates a flap in the cornea which is temporarily set aside so that another laser can correct the patients vision.
The surgery takes about 5-10 min per eye.
TRANS PRK
The Trans PRK or Transepithelial PhotoRefractive Keratectomy surgery, is an excellent option for those with thin corneas or other eye conditions that make them ineligible for LASIK. In this procedure the laser will swiftly and completely pain-free remove the outmost layer of the cornea and immediately thereafter reshape the cornea stromal bed to correct the vision of the patient. A contact lens is placed on the surface which heals within three days.
They surgery takes about 3-5 min per eye.

REFRACTIVE LENS EXCHANGE SURGERY (RLE)
The RLE surgery is very similar to cataract surgery that most people will need during their lifetime. During this procedure the lens of the eye is replaced with a biocompatible manmade lens that matches the patients exact needed vision prescription. This procedure is a very good option for patients not suitable for surface laser procedures, with reliable and stable results over time.
The surgery takes about 15 min per eye and both eyes can be operated upon either on the same day or with a few days difference.
The lens that is implanted corrects the patients refractive error and provides perfect distance vision without glasses or contacts. It is important to note when the natural lens of the eye is replaced, one looses the ability to focus at reading distance and patients should expect to need reading glasses after this type of surgery. If one wants to avoid reading glasses, a multifocal intraocular lens can be an option. To determine if the multifocal lens is a better option, patients are given contact lenses that mimic the multifocal lens prescription before committing to the procedure.
IMPLANTABLE COLLAMER LENS SURGERY (ICL)
In this procedure an implantable collamer lens is placed between the natural lens of the eye and the iris. This implanted lens, made from plastic and collagen, assists the intact natural lens to refract light on the retina (just like your contact lens), which produces clear vision for distance and near.
It is a great options for patients that suffer from dry eyes, have irregular cornea surface or have very strong prescriptions that make them bad candidates for laser correction surgery.
The procedure takes about 15 min per eye.
LASIK TOUCH-UP
If you have previously done a LASIK procedure and are not happy with the results or there have been changes to your vision, a LASIK touch-up can be a good option.

DO I NEED AN EXAM BEFORE A PROCEDURE, EVEN THOUGH I DID IT SOMEWHERE ELSE?
The answer is yes! Anyone who gets surgery with us is personally examined by Dr. Salvanos himself to ensure there are not any undiscovered eye conditions that is incompatible with the planned surgery.
For our patients that are coming from abroad many elect to have a pre-exam in their home country that they send in to us before traveling to our office in Athens, Greece. When doing a pre-exam somewhere else make sure that you receive a written copy of your results that can be sent electronically (via email or screenshot). Contact us to to receive information on what basic measurements should be included in a pre-exam.
